Make everyday activities part of your exercise

In fact, it is in the fitness of things to invent excuses to be active. However, in this age of technology it seems difficult to find ways to be physically active. This is due to mental conditioning rather than physical inability.

There are umpteen ways to keep oneself active throughout the day. For this, one needs to change one’s mindset apart from being a little imaginative. If you resist the temptation of falling back on technology every time you have a task at hand, half the battle is won. Going to gym or playing sport though important for health, keeping oneself busy with routine day-today activities can make a big difference. There are lots of everyday things that provide an opportunity to be active.

WALKING & CYCLING: Cars and motorcycles are great labor-saving machines. They have many utilities that make these modes of transport indispensable to existence of modern man. But use them sparingly when you are really in need. Make a habit of walking or cycling.

Technology might have reduced the scope of human movement but human body is programmed to be active all the time. Hence, don’t let cars and bikes come in the way of physical mobility. Rather than driving to super market every time you need to shop, walk up to a street shop. Cycle your way to work once in a while. Take a bus or train ride or any other public transport to the office off and on. Alight one stop ahead of your destination and walk the rest of the way. Wash the car yourself.

EVERYDAY EXERCISE: You need not go to gym for workout every day. Everyday activities can be good exercise. Housework, gardening and walking to the shops provide enough physical activity to renders regular exercise redundant. Take stairs rather than lift if you live upstairs. Feel free to stretch, dance and walk everywhere to burn kilojoules. You can also play with children. Active lifestyle is the key to good health and weight management. There are lots of everyday things that provide an opportunity to be active and provide health benefits.

AT WORKPLACE: Take time off for a brisk walk during lunch break. Stretch in your chair or at desk. Stand up and walk up to your colleagues whenever you need to communicate with them rather than use phone or intercom. Make it a point to get up you’re your seat and walk around for a few minutes every hour.

AT HOME: If you were to know how much kilojoules you will be burning through housework, you will enjoy doing it yourself rather than depending on others to do it. Be it pushing the vacuum, swabbing floor or mopping around, take part in all the household work. Don’t sit while listening to music, but shake a leg or dance around the house.

Play with your children actively. Take them to the park or kick a ball around the backyard. Walk the dog if you have one as a routine. If you are living on the ground floor, gardening is the best thing to indulge in. You can spend time mowing and raking leaves and planting. The aforementioned ideas are just a tip. You can invent many more such excuses to be active in life. In fact, you can always be on the lookout for newer and varied ideas to incorporate in your lifestyle and reap rich harvest in the form of health and fitness. The admiration your activities draw for you from family and friends will a bonus.
